The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) - West Region has retained the services of Egis (formerly McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers Ltd.) to undertake the Preliminary Design, Detail Design, and Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for intersection improvements on Highway 6 within the Township of Guelph/Eramosa and Township of Centre Wellington, County of Wellington.
The Study is following the approved planning process for a Group 'B' project under the Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000).
The Study will include but is not limited to:
Evaluate criteria to determine the preferred alternative for the intersection improvements (roundabout or traffic signals);
Complete Preliminary Design for the preferred alternative (i.e., Recommended Plan) to be carried forward to Detail Design;
Complete Detail Design for the Recommended Plan, including preparation of contract documents.
Preparation and submission of a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) during Preliminary Design, and preparation of a Design and Construction Report (DCR) during Detail Design.
Upon completion of the Preliminary Design, a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) will be prepared and will be made available for a 30-day comment period. If there are no outstanding concerns, the Preliminary Design will be considered to have met the requirements of MTO’s Preliminary Design and Class EA process and can proceed with Detail Design.
Upon completion of the Detail Design, a Design and Construction Report (DCR) will be prepared and will be made available for a 30-day comment period. If there are no outstanding concerns, the Detail Design will be considered to have met the requirements of MTO’s Detail Design and Class EA process and can proceed with construction. This Study commenced in September 2023 and is anticipated to continue until early 2025 with construction in spring 2025. A Public Information Centre (PIC) is targeted for Winter 2024. A more detailed schedule will be provided at the PIC.
